Arts Research
A university faculty member, musician, and cultural manager, Dr. Astaiza Vallejo holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Louisville, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Arizona State University.
He was a member of the founding committee that led the establishment of the University of the Arts, where he has held various leadership roles and currently serves as Vice President for Graduate Studies and Arts Research.
He has served as President of the National Conservatory of Music of Quito and as Principal Conductor of the Banda Sinfónica Metropolitana de Quito. As a performer, he has appeared as a soloist with national ensembles and has explored sonic landscapes that bridge the gamelan tradition of Indonesia and the Colombian-Ecuadorian marimba.
