The Pre-Professional Internship Office (JPPP) will establish the relevant procedures for conducting pre-professional internships at the University of the Arts.

Pre-professional internships are divided into two components:

  1. Work internships, and
  2. Community service internships.

Students must complete:

  1. A minimum of 240 hours for work internships;
  2. A minimum of 96 hours for community service internships.

Pre-professional work or community service internships may be carried out in the following settings:

  • University of the Arts,
  • National or international public and private organizations and institutions,
  • National or international cultural, community, and civil society organizations,
  • National or international educational institutions.

Step 1: Pre-Professional Internship Registration Process

To begin a pre-professional internship (PPP), students must, by email, request approval from the Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships of their degree program / department, as well as the appointment of a tutor from the degree program / department, who will provide pedagogical support throughout the internship. Only after this may the required forms be completed.

Community service internships will only be carried out within the framework of institutional projects registered and active with the UArtes Directorate of Community Engagement. The forms will list as the host institution either the director of the community engagement project or the project's partner institutions.

It should be noted that, through the course "Laboratorio en la Comunidad" within the curriculum of the Transversal Department of Critical Theories and Experimental Practices, students will obtain 32 hours of community service internship credit.

Step 2: Pre-Professional Internship Planning

Before beginning a pre-professional internship, students must take the following into account:

  1. Request the appointment of a tutor from their degree program / department to ensure pedagogical support throughout the internship.
  2. Complete the Pre-Professional Practices Form to formalize the hours to be completed according to the Activity Plan. The PRE-PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP FORM, in PDF format, will be electronically signed by the Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships of the degree program / department. Students must upload this form to their digital file in the Pre-Professional Internship Module of the SGA.

Step 3: Closing and Evaluation of the Pre-Professional Internship

  1. The Faculty Tutor of the degree program / department will electronically sign the Pre-professional internship closing report to certify the pedagogical support provided. In addition, the tutor will assess the student's performance and the quality of results achieved during the internship hours.
  2. In the same form, students must provide a summary of the activities carried out and must include 6 (six) photos documenting their internship process. This form must be uploaded, in PDF format, to the digital file in the Pre-Professional Internship Module of the SGA.
  3. The host institution will issue a Pre-professional internship certificate to confirm that the student completed the planned hours at the institution. This document may be signed by hand or electronically. Students must upload it, in PDF format, to the digital file in the Pre-Professional Internship Module of the SGA.

Step 4: Validation and Certification of the Pre-Professional Internship

Students must notify the Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships so their internship hours can be validated once all forms have been uploaded to the digital file.

Original documents containing handwritten signatures must be submitted to the Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships for physical filing.

Each Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships must keep a file containing all original documentation related to pre-professional internships until the student has completed the total required hours.

Once the file is complete, a Delivery/Receipt Record and a Document Inventory will be issued to the Pre-Professional Internship Office for the final custody of the physical documentation.

Once a student has completed the total required hours, the Faculty Member Responsible for Pre-Professional Internships must request, via memorandum, that the Pre-Professional Internship Office issue the Certificate of Completion of Pre-Professional Internship.

The certificate is issued on a first-come, first-served basis after verification of the supporting evidence, and will be filed in the digital record located in the Pre-Professional Internship Module of the SGA. The Pre-Professional Internship Office has at least one week to issue the certificate.
