The Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Creation enables students to develop their creative sensitivity by exploring tools that engage the body as a whole. Through playful and critical experimentation, students are encouraged to develop their own artistic poetics.
Grounded in an integrated approach to practice and theory, the Theater Creation degree program provides students with conceptual tools, techniques, and bodily practices informed by diverse ideological, aesthetic, and historical perspectives. These perspectives recognize theater as a field for the production of distinct forms of knowledge.
The program conceives of the actor as an agent who activates and transforms theater as a live event. From a contemporary perspective, the program critically examines diverse forms of theatricality and traditions of representation while creating spaces for experimentation and reflection through intercultural, transcultural, and interdisciplinary intersections.
Graduates of the Theater Creation degree program will be able to create and produce theatrical events, understanding theatricality as a framework that encompasses multiple forms. They will also engage in dialogue and critical reflection on different forms of theatricality and develop projects in, on, and for theater. They will be prepared to organize gatherings, exhibitions, seminars, colloquia, and other spaces that foster creation, circulation, dissemination, and the exchange of diverse forms of knowledge in the field.
The School of Performing Arts brings together faculty members whose sustained work in arts research and artistic creation—whether focused on practice, theory, or both—supports the ongoing renewal of artistic languages and the development of distinctive pedagogical approaches to teaching and sharing knowledge in the performing arts. The School brings together faculty trained at established academic institutions and artists with distinguished careers developed outside traditional academic settings. This balance is essential to the profile of the students the program seeks to cultivate.

Un nuevo Convenio Marco de Cooperación Interinstitucional suscribió la Universidad de las Artes con el Museo Antropológico y de Arte Contemporáneo (MAAC), representados por el rector Saidel Brito, y su director, Hugo Calle. En el acto, que tuvo lugar este 15 de septiembre en el Salón Azul de El Telégrafo, se destacó el relacionamiento sostenido durante una década en ámbitos como docencia, ivinculación con la sociedad, formación continua y prácticas preprofesionales.
Dos grandes escenarios ubicados en el Pasaje Illingworth del antiguo Palacio de la Gobernación, nuestra sede matriz, dieron cuenta de la magnitud de la Casa Abierta organizada por la Universidad de las Artes para mostrar a los estudiantes de las unidades educativas de Guayaquil y cantones guayasenses cercanos la oferta académica. Ayer, martes 15 de septiembre, fue el primero de tres días de la cita.
Alumni, estudiantes y un docente UArtes integran el elenco de “Niña madre, Madre santa. ¿Y si la madre no fuera virgen?”, obra que en 2024 conquistó el concurso de Producción de Artes Escénicas y Artes Vivas del IFAIC, fondo que le dio meses de trabajo y un estreno. En este año, la obra es ganadora para Gira Nacional IFAIC 2026: Territorios en diálogo. La graduada Darla Alarcón integra el elenco y da detalles de la producción.
