The Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Creation enables students to develop their creative sensitivity by exploring tools that engage the body as a whole. Through playful and critical experimentation, students are encouraged to develop their own artistic poetics.
Grounded in an integrated approach to practice and theory, the Theater Creation degree program provides students with conceptual tools, techniques, and bodily practices informed by diverse ideological, aesthetic, and historical perspectives. These perspectives recognize theater as a field for the production of distinct forms of knowledge.
The program conceives of the actor as an agent who activates and transforms theater as a live event. From a contemporary perspective, the program critically examines diverse forms of theatricality and traditions of representation while creating spaces for experimentation and reflection through intercultural, transcultural, and interdisciplinary intersections.
Graduates of the Theater Creation degree program will be able to create and produce theatrical events, understanding theatricality as a framework that encompasses multiple forms. They will also engage in dialogue and critical reflection on different forms of theatricality and develop projects in, on, and for theater. They will be prepared to organize gatherings, exhibitions, seminars, colloquia, and other spaces that foster creation, circulation, dissemination, and the exchange of diverse forms of knowledge in the field.
The School of Performing Arts brings together faculty members whose sustained work in arts research and artistic creation—whether focused on practice, theory, or both—supports the ongoing renewal of artistic languages and the development of distinctive pedagogical approaches to teaching and sharing knowledge in the performing arts. The School brings together faculty trained at established academic institutions and artists with distinguished careers developed outside traditional academic settings. This balance is essential to the profile of the students the program seeks to cultivate.

De manera unánime, el Órgano Colegiado Superior (OCS) resolvió aprobar la suspensión de los efectos de la Tabla Arancelaria de Cobros por Pérdida de Gratuidad en Carreras de Grado y Otros Servicios de la UArtes, con vigencia a partir de su expedición mediante Resolución Nro. UA-OCS-RSE-2025-45, respecto a estudiantes de grado con con condición de matrícula no regular, hasta la expedición de la reforma respectiva.
Está próxima a titularse en la carrera de Creación Teatral y sacándole tiempo al tiempo ha participado con los compañeros, graduados y egresados del colectivo Atávico en producciones como “Baritute, el secuestro de la lluvia”. Ahora, Otty Palma celebra un nuevo logro, pues es una de los ocho ganadores del concurso de Investigación en Artes y Cultura del Instituto de Fomento de las Artes, Innovación y Creatividades.
La memoria festiva, la identidad y las expresiones culturales del Ecuador desde una mirada contemporánea dialogan en “Cuerpos en pregón: Residuo festivo”, obra beneficiaria del Fondo de Fomento de las Artes, Cultura e Innovación. Producida por el Colectivo Artístico Ados+Pieles, en la propuesta intervienen estudiantes y graduados UArtes. Estuvo en escena en Riobamba y continúa su circulación los días 23 y 24 de julio en el Teatro Casa Zona Escena.
